A Lifetime Of Radio

I started my radio journey in 1972, when I built my first AM receiver kit purchased at my local Radio Shack.

I went on the air during the CB heydays of the 1970’s as KACT-4170.  In the 1980’s I became enthralled with Ham Radio, reaching Amateur Extra Class in 1989 as AC4DL.
In 1991, I joined Ten-Tec in Sevierville, TN as an Embedded Systems Engineer. There, I designed Ten-Tec’s DSP/SDR products alongside “Jones Filter” creator, Lee Jones, WB4JTR (SK).

Along with founders Al Kahn, K4FW (SK) and Jack Burchfield, K4JU (SK), and VP Tom Salvetti, KC3NF, we launched numerous cutting edge SDR, DSP and RF products for Amateur, Commercial, and Government markets. See here for a summary list of my Ten-Tec designed products. Also, visit AC4DL.COM for more details on design of Ten-Tec Products.

I also served as Director of Engineering from 1997 to 2009 and Corporate Vice-President from 2001 to 2009.

The history of Ten-Tec has been chronicled in the book by N. L. Williams titled “Ten-Tec, the first 40 years”.

I departed Ten-Tec in 2013, and joined Sunair Electronics in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Serving as Director of Engineering until 2022. Sunair is focused on Military HF and Civil Aviation HF products, including 5kW and 10kW transmitters.
